For selected countertop & compact ovens
Compact Baking Steel
Smaller oven? You can still bake on steel.
We offer the 330 × 275mm steel for home bakers whose ovens cannot accommodate our larger 406 × 340mm steel. Choose the size that fits the kitchen you have.

Why this size exists
A fit for ovens with less room.
A large baking steel is only useful if it fits your oven. The compact size gives you a preheated steel surface for pizza and bread when the larger steel is too wide or too deep.
Measure first, then choose. Oven capacity in litres and the size of its outer case do not tell you how much usable rack space you have.

Check at home · With the oven cold
Check your oven before ordering.
The steel measures 330 × 275 × 5mm. Check the usable shelf space and support in your oven using these three steps.
Measure the shelf.
Measure usable rack width and depth at the shelf you will bake on. Account for rails, rear protrusions and the door opening. Leave the clearance required by your oven's manual.
Try a template.
Cut cardboard to 33 × 27.5cm. Place it flat on the cold rack and close the door. Check clearance on every side. Remove the cardboard before heating.
Check the support.
The rack must hold the steel and food securely. Check the oven's rack load limit and metal-accessory instructions. If these are unclear, check with the oven manufacturer before use.
A template checks space; it does not test rack strength or airflow. Need help checking the measurements? Send us your oven model and usable rack measurements.
What to make
A useful surface for everyday bakes.
Preheated steel transfers stored heat into the base of your dough, helping it brown and develop a crisp crust.
A whole pizza
Around 25cm / 10 inches, with space to load it onto the steel.
A smaller loaf
Choose a dough shape that sits comfortably within the surface.
Short baguettes
Or flatbreads sized to fit your steel and oven.
Suggested bake sizes allow working room. They are guides, not maximum capacities.
Before your first bake
Preheat well. Bake within your oven's limits.
Place the steel on a supported rack in a cold oven. Preheat for around 30–45 minutes at a suitable baking temperature, following your oven's instructions. If your oven's maximum is 230°C, stay within that limit and adjust the recipe accordingly.
Load with a peel, watch the crust colour and allow the steel to cool fully in the oven before handling. It arrives pre-seasoned: rinse and dry before first use. After washing, dry fully and re-oil lightly.
A few useful answers.
Does it fit every compact oven?
No. Even ovens with similar litre capacities can have different rack dimensions. Check your exact model, usable rack space, load support and required clearance.
Can I use it in a microwave or combination microwave?
Do not use the steel in microwave mode. Combination appliances have mode-specific metal-accessory restrictions; follow the exact oven manual and obtain manufacturer guidance before using this steel.
What if both steel sizes fit?
The larger 406 × 340 × 6mm steel gives you more loading room and space for larger bakes. Compare your usable oven space and the food you want to make. View the larger steel.
What comes with the compact steel?
One pre-seasoned 330 × 275 × 5mm carbon steel baking steel. The oven, food and peel shown or described are not included.
